Nine persons are feared drowned as a boat carrying them capsized in the Beas river of Punjab's Kapurthala district today, a senior police official said.
The boat was ferrying 17 people when it sank in the river, Kapurthala SSP, Inderbir Singh said, adding that eight people swam to safety.
"Nine are feared drowned, but we are making all efforts to trace them. We have launched massive rescue operations that includes pressing divers into service," he said.
Singh said it was not immediately known whether the boat also had any women or children on board.
