Nine injured in clash over panchayat polls in UP

Nine persons were injured in a clash between supporters of two Panchayat poll candidates in Shamli district, police said today.
The incident took place after the election last evening when the supporters of Dhir Singh and Darshan Singh, hurled stones and opened fire last evening at each other in Luxmanpura village under Jhinhana police station in Shamli district, they said.
Those injured in the clash were admitted to a hospital, they said.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a person was shot at during a clash between supporters of two poll candidates last evening under Budhana police station in Prasoli village in Muzaffarnagar district, police said.
The injured, Ramu was shifted to a hospital, they said.
Senior officers have been rushed to the spot and the situation has been brought under control, police said.
Security has been tightened in the villages and extra police has been deployed, they further said.
