Odisha continues to reel under sweltering heat with nine places including state capital recording temperature above 40 degree Celsius today despite onset of monsoon in the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of heat wave in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Angul, Bolangir and Kalahandi during next 48 hours.
The nine places which recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius are - Talcher (40.8), Chandbali (40.3), Cuttack (40), Bhubaneswar(40.2), Angul (40.9), Baripada (41.4), Bhawanipatna (40.5), Bolangir (40.3) and Titlagarh, the IMD said.
The Regional Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar attributed the sudden rise in temperature to "weakened monsoon force."
