'Nirbhay' Award for those fighting atrocities against women

The Maharashtra government has constituted 'Nirbhay' Award which is to be presented to individuals fighting atrocities against women, a State official said here today.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a certificate of appreciation, a Home Department spokesperson said.
The police commissioner and superintendent of police would have to recommend names of those working to end atrocities against women in their respective jurisdiction by December 31, the spokesperson said.
"These names should be recommended to a committee headed by the Director General of Police (DGP). The committee will decide their terms and references as well as scrutinise the recommendations received," the official said.
The DGP has been asked to finalise the criteria of selection for the award with state government approval, the spokesperson said.
