Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today set a target to bring the state among top five states in terms of immunisation in the country in as many years and stressed on launching a campaign on the lines of the pulse polio campaign.
Kumar announced the target while launching the "Mission Indradhanush (rainbow)" here.
Kumar exuded confidence that state health officials in cooperation with UNICEF, WHO and other organisations would achieve the target in the next five years.
The CM said all preparations have been made to start the campaign of total immunisation in 14 districts in the first phase, including Araria, Kisanganj, Katihar, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Bettiah, Patna, Gaya, Jamui and Begusarai.
These districts have been selected considering that only 50 per cent of the children have been covered under immunisation programme there, he said.
Kumar cited example of successful run of pulse polio immunisation programme under which all District Magistrates were instructed to pay special attention towards it.
Due to sustained efforts, no case of polio was found after three years of immunisation campaign, he said.
State health minister Ramdhani Singh said the name of the mission has been given "Indradhanush" (rainbow) as it aimed to fight against seven diseases.
