Nitish honours officials for saving lives of dolphins, tiger

Bihar government today honoured five officials of Forest and Environment department and a police officer for protection and translocation of dolphins and tiger this year.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar rewarded the six officials in a function here.
Divisional Forest Officer of Araria Ranbir Singh and Director Gopal Sharma were also given citations of Zoological Survey of India for rescuing two dolphins stranded in Donk river in Kisanganj on March 9 this year.
The two successfully took the two dolphins out of the river and after treatment translocated them in the Mahanadi.
In another incident, a team of three officials and their leader Divisional Forest Officer of Bettiah Kamaljit Singh tranquilised a tiger which had strayed out of Balmikinagar tiger reserve into Sirsia village of Bettiah district on April 15, 2013. It was later left in the Bheriyar forest in Balmikinagar in Bagha district.
Superintendent of Police of Bettiah Sunil Kumar Naik was also honoured for efficient crowd control during the 12-hour-long operation on the tiger.
The other two rewarded were Nand Kishore, DFO cum Deputy Director of Balmikinagar Tiger Reserve and Makshoodul Hassan, compounder of Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park for tranquilising the tiger at Sirasia village.
