Yeo, earlier in the day, had submitted his resignation letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, Visitor of the university, saying the varsity's autonomy was being affected.
The former foreign minister of Singapore had succeeded economist and Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen as the second Chancellor of Nalanda University (NU).
Kumar said, "The events unfolding at NU show which way the university is going and an environment of confusion has been created."
"If everybody associated with the NU from the beginning leave, the core value of 'Idea of Nalanda' would be affected," Kumar, who is closely associated with development of the University in Rajgir, said.

NU was created at the initiative of Bihar government and the university has international historical importance, Kumar said as he appealed to the Union government to take a "positive step" considering core values and distinguished nature of the varsity for its development.
He exuded confidence that the Union government would initiate action keeping in mind all the aspects of the University.
NU Vice Chancellor Gopa Sabharwal's one year extension also expired yesterday.
