Nitish pays tributes to late B P Mandal on his birth centenary

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today paid floral tributes to former Bihar chief minister late B P Mandal on his birth centenary.

Mandal besides being the Biha chief minister had headed the Backward Classes Commission which recommended 27 per cent quota for OBCs in jobs. The recommendations were implemented by the V P Singh government in 1990.

Kumar, accompanied by his cabinet colleagues and other dignitaries, paid floral tributes at Mandal's portrait at the memorial site at his native Murho village in Madhepura district, an official release said.

Kumar and others also participated in the all faith prayer meet later, it said adding that the chief minister also released a coffee-table book on the occasion.

Mandal's son Manendra Kumar Mandal was among the dignitaries present at the programme in Madhepura.

Earlier at a state-level function here Kumar along with Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary and ministers paid their homage by garlanding Mandal's statue.

Information and Public Relations Department organised 'arti-pujan' and singing of patriotic songs on the occasion.
