Nitish reviews Chitle comm report on silt deposit in Ganga

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said there is a need to prepare a comprehensive national silt management policy to protect River Ganga and its uninterrupted flow.
Kumar said silt has constantly been getting deposited in the Ganga and a comprehensive national silt management policy could be formulated only after getting a survey done on the river, a government release said.
While reviewing the Madhav Chitle Committee Report on silt deposition in the Ganga, the Chief Minister said officers and engineers should first carry out a survey of the river till Farakka.
A detailed presentation was given before Kumar by Water Resources department principal secretary Arun Kumar Singh on various aspects of the report, the release said.
The Chief Minister has already expressed his reservation on construction of check dams as part of the National Waterways-I project on the Ganga, which would cover major parts of Bihar.
The state government had also said in the Legislative Assembly that it would approach the Supreme Court against the project.
