Banned insurgent outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) will hold a tripartite talks with the state and the central government in Shillong on April 4, officials said today.
NLFT chief Biswamohan Debbarma expressed his willingness to hold talks with the Centre a few months ago and the Centre sought the opinion of the state government which said it had no objection, a Home Department official said on the condition of anonymity.
Two outfits, All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) and NLFT were banned by the Union Home Ministry in 1997. The outfits were continuing bush-war from their base in neighbouring Bangladesh to secede Tripura from the Indian union.
However, many of the ATTF ultras had surrendered to the security forces in the last few years and its self-styled supremo, Ranjit Debbarma was unofficially pushed back from Bangladesh by the BGB in 2013 and is in prison now.
