NMC representatives demand funds for Kumbha Mela preparations
Press Trust of India Nashik A delegation of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) representatives in the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), led by Mayor Ashok Murtadak and Deputy Mayor Gurmitsingh Bagga met former guardian minister Chhagan Bhujbal yesterday, demanding sufficient funds from central and state governments.
Murtadak said here today that the NMC has not received adequate funds from governments though the Kumbh Mela is only eight months away.
Though the NMC sent a Rs 2,505-crore proposal to the Maharashtra state government for various works, the government granted only Rs 1,052 crore, informing that the government would bear only one-third of the expenses, Murtadak said.
So far, the government has paid only Rs 222 crore out of Rs 350 crore, due to which the Kumbh Mela work faces hurdles.
It was decided during a meeting that a delegation of NMC representatives, MPs and MLAs would meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon, the mayor said.
