The National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) has appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir government to regularise jobs of daily wagers working in various blocks in the Jammu region before the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections comes into force.
The NMC has sought Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar's personal intervention to expedite the regularisation.
"We express concern over the inordinate delay in issuance of regularisation orders of 180 daily wagers of the Rural Development and Panchayats Department working in various blocks in the Jammu region," NMC president Subash Shashtri said here today.
In two separate memoranda to Omar and Sagar, the NMC president said the Planning Department had in 2009 sanctioned regularisation of 180 employees engaged before 1994, but the file was still pending for clearance.
Shashtri expressed his dismay that no definite policy was being followed as far as regularisation of daily wagers was concerned, and said if all require procedural formalities had been completed there was no reason whatsoever to delay the regularisation of daily wagers.
We hope that an urgent decision would be taken in the matter and regularisation orders would be issued well before the Model Code of Conduct came into force, he said.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has regularised more than 2,000 workers in the Rural Development and Panchayats Department, leaving around 180 daily wagers.
