No adverse impact of demonetisation on crop sowing in Haryana

In Haryana, farmers have so far completed sowing of wheat and other crops over 29.32 lakh hectares in rabi season 2016-17, surpassing 29.31 lakh hectares covered in the corresponding period last year.
Stating this here today, a spokesman of the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department said that "demonetisation has not adversely impacted sowing in the state."
He said that farmers have so far achieved 88.93 per cent of the target set for sowing of wheat and other crops by covering 29.32 lakh hectares against the target of 32.97 lakh hectares.
The spokesman said that wheat had so far been sown in 23.08 lakh hectare area as against the target of 25.50 lakh hectare, covering 90.51 per cent of the target. During the corresponding period last year, wheat had been sown in 22.94 lakh hectares.
Similarly, gram has been sown in 71.25 per cent of the target area, covering 0.57 lakh hectares against the target of 0.80 lakh hectares, whereas it was sown in 0.60 lakh hectares during the corresponding period last year.
He said that barley had been sown in 64.29 per cent of the target area at 0.27 lakh hectares against the target of 0.42 lakh hectares, whereas it had been sown in 0.34 lakh hectares during the corresponding period last year.

Rabi pulses have been sown in 60 per cent of the target area, covering 0.06 lakh hectares against 0.10 lakh hectares, whereas 0.09 lakh hectares had been covered in the corresponding period last year.
Similarly, rabi oilseeds have been sown in 89 per cent of the target area. These crops have been sown in 5.34 lakh hectares against the target of six lakh hectares, whereas 5.34 lakh hectares had been covered under these crops during the corresponding period last year, he said.
He said that sowing of sunflower, which is to be done over 0.15 lakh hectares, would commence in February, 2017.
