"There have been speculations that AIUDF is willing to have an alliance with the Congress for the panchayat polls next year and the Lok Sabha elections. I can clearly state that such a question does not arise," AIUDF president and Lok Sabha MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal said here.
The AIUDF, the principal opposition party in Assam, is a constituent of the Congress-led in UPA in Centre.
Speaking to reporters after conclusion of the party's two-day General Council meeting, Ajmal refrained from answering a question regarding the party's poll prospects.
Regarding allegations against him of playing a role in the recent violence in lower Assam, Ajmal said "I have time and again denied the charges."
The AIUDF leader said his party's General Council has demanded rehabilitation of all those displaced during the violence in their original homes without pre-conditions.
"Around 1.58 lakh displaced people are still left in camps of the 4.86 lakh who had left their homes following the violence while the rest have gone back to their homes. I think it is a satisfactory progress as 75 per cent people have gone back to their homes in past three months.
"The government should now take measures to ensure that the rest also return and people are able to go back to their normal lives," Ajmal said. MORE
