Eight migrant labourers were killed in their camps in a remote mining village in South Garo Hills on June 23 while another was killed by a mob at West Garo Hills district Tura town on June 21.
"We are yet to make any breakthrough in arresting the assailants even as cases of murder, attempt to murder, theft, criminal conspiracy were registered in the incident," South Garo Hills district superintendent of police Davis Marak told PTI.
Additional District Magistrate Davidson Sangma who headed the probe was given 15 days to submit the report.
The police has also registered six cases in incident in which a migrant labourer was killed by a mob after he was caught harassing/molesting a mentally unstable girl with four of his friends.

West Garo Hills district Superintendent of Police Mukesh Singh, who is camping at the plain belts areas of the district neighbouring Assam, said, in the aftermath of the two incidences normal life has been affected.
He said night curfew imposed under section 144 CrPC is still on from 6 PM to 6 AM to prevent any possible outbreak of law and order.
He however, said police and para military forces are under alert. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said district administrations have issued advisory for migrant labourers to move to safer grounds.
Over 11,000 migrant labourers from Assam have been safely evacuated under police escort from their respective mining and construction sites in the two affected districts to their homes, a senior home official said.
Home Minister Roshan Warjri said the matter is under control and peace committees and peace rallies are being held in the affected districts.
