Entire West Bengal has been covered with posters of U-17 World Cup bearing photos of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, but there is no awareness campaign on dengue that has affected south Bengal districts, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said here today.
Pathological laboratories and doctors were being threatened in order to hush up the actual dengue situation in the state, Ghosh alleged in a press conference.
He said, "World Cup posters are carrying photos of the chief minister. But why is there no awareness campaign on dengue situation?"
The FIFA U-17 World Cup is being co-hosted by Kolkata.
"People are being given erroneous (pathological test) reports. The state government is trying to hush up the real picture of the disease," said Ghosh who is currently on a north Bengal tour.
The chief minister has earlier denied that the state government is trying to suppress information regarding dengue cases or deaths.
