Pakistan's leading banks and leasing companies are providing car loans only if the customer gives an undertaking that the vehicle will not be taken to the militancy-affected Khyber Pakhtunkhawa province.
The northwestern province, which has been worst hit by violence since the 9/11 attacks in the US and the war on terror, has been described by the financial institutions as a dangerous place.
"When we buy a car with a loan from any bank or leasing company, the agreements we sign include a clause stating clearly we can take the car to anywhere in the country except Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa," one customer, who did not want to be named, told PTI.
The customer, who had recently taken a loan from a leading bank to buy a car, said all financial institutions had the same clause in their loan agreements.
"Until the loan period is completed, the car's papers are in the name of the bank. For this period, the bank or company clearly states we can travel anywhere in Pakistan except Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa," he said.
Hundreds of people, including top politicians, have died in attacks blamed on the Pakistani Taliban and other militant groups in the northwestern province over the past six years.
