No cooking oil contains cholesterol, says nutrition specialist

In contrast to a common belief that consumption of more cooking oil leads to building of cholesterol in the body, a nutrition specialist today said it does not contain trans fat that causes it.
"No cooking oil contains trans fat so there is no fear of cholesterol from any kind of oil. It is only marketing gimmick by companies (to claim that certain cooking oils cause less or no less cholesterol in consumers)," Deputy Director and head of department National Institute of Nutrition, D Raghunathan Rao said here today.
Seeking to alleviate fears about restrictive consumption of any cooking medium, he said in fact for some green vegetables use of little more oil help in better release of nutrients.
He was speaking at a health and wellness seminar organised by Smart Value Products and Services.
Kharagpur IIT associate professor Analava Mitra said lack of awareness is one of the major factors for malnutrition in the country.
"At times it is found that lack of knowledge leads to malnutrition," he said.
