Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the Legislative Assembly today that his government wanted to remove casinos from Mandovi River but had not yet found a feasible site for their relocation.
The state has six casinos which are currently anchored on Mandovi River.
"The government has decided to remove casinos from River Mandovi but till today no alternate feasible site has been finalised. The matter is under examination," he told the House.
In his written reply, Parrikar also said the state was in the process of drafting a policy on casinos.
Parrikar, replying to a private member's motion tabled by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, said that the state would draft rules for a gaming commission by December this year.
A gaming commissioner would be appointed after that, he said.
