Gandhi, while pitching for conducting research on any link between cancer and cattle milk, claimed that "BLV-affected cells were found in cases of breast cancer".
She said the Indian dairy industry has known for several years that cattle "carry" bovine leukaemia virus (BLV) but have not done anything, considering it was not zoonotic.
"So, it should be researched, if there is any link between breast cancer and milk. Diet should be studied," she said.
Doctors at the hospital, later, when asked if there was any prior study on BLV in this connection, however, declined to comment.
