Although the state is the second highest in the country in terms of HIV prevalence, mass awareness and education resulted in checking further spread of the dreaded disease, MSACS officials said today.
The MSACS has detected 10,448 HIV cases since October 1990 till June this year.
The officials, however, maintained that the recent trend in the HIV cases was alarming as 69.31 per cent of HIV patients had been infected through intercourse, while earlier sharing of needles and syringes among drug abusers was the main cause of the infections.
