"Today, dance has changed a lot. I think nowadays what we get to see is only beats, there is no grace left in dance. We see only acrobatics. This is successful because we are in the habit of copying the west," Saroj, 63, told reporters here on the sidelines of celebration of 100 years of cinema at the Whistling Woods.
"We don't think of our culture. If we learn from our culture, it will be as tough as drinking an ocean. I feel that dance is going down," she said.
Her recent choreography includes 'Gun Guna' from "Agneepath", 'Dil Mera Muft Ka' from "Agent Vinod" and 'Chamak Challo Chel Chabeli' from the upcoming film "Rowdy Rathore".
"Sonakshi did everything that I asked her to do and Prabhu Deva (director of 'Rowdy Rathore') approved it. She is very graceful," she said.
On item numbers she says, "Now, so many item numbers have come up. Earlier people used to appreciate Helen. She had grace and elegance. Now everyone is ready to remove their clothes."
