"The allegation of illegality is baseless. The lights were installed following the set rules. The job was undertaken as an emergency work," Chatterjee told reporters here.
Earlier opposition leader in the Trinamool Congress-led Kolkata Municipal Corporation Rupa Bagchi submitted a memorandum to Chatterjee demanding an enquiry into the entire process which she termed as "illegal".
"No tender was floated for the work," the CPI(M) leader said.
Meanwhile Tarak Singh, MIC (workshop), said 100 more such lights would be installed in the slum areas before Durga Puja in October replacing the existing ones.
