The initial autopsy report of Rodick Andrew Raymond, the British citizen whose body was found in a plastic bag outside a shop in Bhogal area of Nizamuddin in southeast Delhi, has shed little light on the case.
According to police sources, doctors have not been able to identify the reason behind Raymond's death, and has even indicated that the deep gashes found on the body could have developed due to decomposition and may not actually be injury marks.
A senior police official said the initial autopsy report is inconclusive and they would have to wait for the viscera report and other forensic reports to identify the cause of death.
Investigators are now trying to find the kind of plastic bag in which the body was found.
"We have searched Bhogal and surrounding areas but could not find such a bag. The bag must have been bought from the area where he was killed. If we can find that, it can help take the investigation forward," a police official said.
Police has found that Raymond had come to Delhi on April 24 and checked into a hotel in central Delhi with the help of a tout he met at Nizamuddin Railway Station. He had his lunch in the afternoon near the hotel.
The tout and an auto driver who had apparently ferried Raymond, were questioned, but nothing concrete has been found so far in the case.
The decomposed body of Raymond was found in a plastic bag outside a shop in Bhogal area of Nizamuddin in southeast Delhi on Sunday. The body was identified with the help of a damaged passport found in his pocket.
Raymond had come to India on a tourist visa in February and had visited Chennai, Mumbai and Goa before coming to Delhi.
"It is possible that he was killed for robbery but we are investigating the case from all possible angles. It seemed that he was killed somewhere else and his body was dumped here to mislead us," a police official said.
From the body's condition, it appeared Raymond might have been murdered three-four days ago, police said.
