Anurag Sharma, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, rubbished media reports suggesting an exodus and appealed to the people of north-east working in the city not to feel apprehensive and panicky.

"Though some persons of north-eastern region have left Hyderabad due to apprehensions and family pressure, there is no mass exodus as reported in certain sections of media," he said in a release here.

Some representatives of the north-east community met the city police chief to apprise him about apprehensions of the people from the region, it said.

The police are constantly monitoring the situation and if any instances of harassment or threat come to notice, people can contact the Police Control Room, the release said.

There were reports from neighbouring Karnataka that a large number of people from the north-east residing in Bangalore have fled fearing attacks in the wake of ethnic riots in Assam.
