The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) today told the Bombay High Court that it has not allotted any space to any political party for setting up an office in the parking areas of the international and domestic airports.
The oral submission was made by MIAL's counsel Janak Dwarkadas before the division bench of Justices A S Oka and Riyaz Chagla.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation claiming that political parties were being permitted to open offices in the parking areas of the airports.
Abu Azmi, the petitioner, claimed that the Shiv Sena, the MNS and the BJP have been allotted office spaces in the parking areas of both the international and domestic airports.
Bhushan Mahadik, his lawyer, argued that the parking lots cannot be used for commercial purposes.
Senior advocate Dwarkadas, however, denied that any party has been given such a space.
"No political party has been allotted space and the MIAL does not intend to do so in future too," he said.
