Dismissing any issue of oneupmanship between Delhi and Mumbai police in connection with the investigation into the IPL spot-fixing case, Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil today said that both the police teams were cooperating with each other.
"There is no issue of oneupmanship between Mumbai and Delhi police. Both of them are cooperating with each other in connection with the spot-fixing case," he told reporters.
There were charges of lack of coordination between the two police forces in the case.
The Special Cell of Delhi police had arrested Sreesanth and his Rajasthan Royals teammates -- Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan -- from Mumbai on the night of May 15 for indulging in spot-fixing in at least three IPL matches.
The Mumbai crime branch had arrested three bookies - Ramesh Vyas (52), Pandurang Kadam (41) and Ashok Vyas (32)- a day before Sreesanth and two other members of IPL team Rajasthan Royals were arrested. They had also conducted searches at the hotel room where Sreesanth and his close friend Jiju, who was allegedly in touch with the bookies on behalf of the cricketer, were reported to have stayed.
Talking about the efficiency of the Mumbai police, Patil said, "Our police are efficient and always alert. Remember that they were the ones who first nabbed the hawala racketeer Ramesh Vyas."
Patil also dismissed reports that a Marathi actress was involved in the IPL spot-fixing case.
