With the Aam Aadmi Party set to bag 67 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, election watchdog Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) today said that virtually no opposition in the Delhi House is worrisome.
"In a way it is good because it is people's mandate. But what is worrisome is that for healthy democracy you require good opposition which is lacking now," ADR coordinator Bhaskar Assoldekar told PTI while reacting to the Delhi election results.
In any state Legislative Assembly, you need strong and qualitatively good opposition, which is going to lack in the Delhi Assembly, he said.
"Also with members of ruling party being freshers, they don't have experience to run the government. And with almost no opposition, the situation could be tricky," he said.
The AAP's election campaign has raised the expectations of people from them, Assoldekar said.
"People have high expectations which require huge expenses," Assoldekar said, adding that the new state government will have to seek money from the Centre for that.
In the Delhi elections results declared today, AAP sweeped the polls. The BJP won two seats and was leading in another while Congress drew a blank.
