Inaugurating a three-day Indian Biodiversity Congress 2017 here, the Chief Minister said, "Puducherry is now pollution-free and is among the cleanest states in the southern part of the country.
We want to retain this record and hence there would be no permission for industries that would pose threat to environment and to ecology."
Stating that there was every need to preserve bio-diversity for posterity and for the welfare of farmers, he said owing to increase in needs and yearning for quick results "an imbalance in ecology has been created, marked by climate change and threat to the sustainable agricultural operations."
Narayanasamy further said people should be sensitised on the need to preserve ecology and bio diversity so that the future generation could be assured of a salubrious environment and eco-friendly development.
Industries Minister M O H F Shah Jahan, Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University, Anisa Basheer Khan and President of the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action were among those who spoke.
