Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering replied in negative to a query in Rajya Sabha on whether the government was proposing any amendment in the Constitution to implement the minority quota.

Explaining the reasons behind the government's stand, Ering said, "The matter is sub-judice".

In reply to another query, Ering said the governments of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh have been requested to inform if they want their Wakf Boards to continue to function independently or be merged as one body.

The minister was responding to a question on whether there has been a persistent demand for unification of the Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Wakf Boards.
