In a major relief, Odisha government today announced that there would be no power cuts in the state till December 31.
"There will be no power cut, either during the day or night, till December 31," Energy minister Pranab Prakash Das told reporters after reviewing the power situation at a high level meeting here.
The government will take further decision on the issue at another review meeting to be held in the first week of January, 2016.
Stating that the state government have been successful in generating the required electricity for consumers, the minister said there has been substantial increase in generation of hydro-power.
About 3,750 MW of power is required during the peak hours and 3000 MW during normal hours in the state, he said.
Earlier, the government had stopped load-shedding at night during the festive season beginning October 11.
Asked whether Grid Corporation of Odisha (Gridco) would go for power purchase from private electricity producers, the minister said there is no such requirement for the time being.
Earlier, Gridco had sought permission from Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (Oerc) requesting it to purchase electricity from private power producers at high rate to meet the electricity requirement of the state. OERC is yet to give its nod to Gridco in this regard, officials said.
