Kerala High Court today restrained carrying out of quarrying operations within 50 metres of residential buildings and 40 metres from Kerala Water Authority water tanks.
The order in this regard was issued by a division bench comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice A M Shaffique on a petition filed by Kombara Parambu Harijan Colony Samrakshana Samithi.
According to the petitioners, a Kerala Authority water tank was situated within 40 meters from a quarry in the colony and sought prevention of quarrying activities within the distance and appropriate action against illegal quarrying.
The bench restrained all persons from carrying out quarrying operations within 50 metres of residential buildings and said no quarrying operations will be carried out within 40 metres from KWA water tanks and directed government to file a detailed affidavit within three weeks and produce copies of Environmental Clearance relating to quarries.
