"We have entertained almost all their demands and are ready to discuss other demands in an amicable and peaceful atmosphere across the table. There is no reason for going on strikes every now and then", Omar told reporters yesterday at Devsar in south Kashmir.

The government employees have held a series of protests and strikes to pressurise the state government to fulfil their demands which include increasing the retirement age to 60 years from the current 58 years.

The employees are also demanding a regularisation policy for the daily-wagers, casual labourers and need-based workers engaged after 1994. They have also been asking for removal of pay anomaly of clerical cadre and budgetary support for the public sector undertakings.

"Some vested interests in the employee circles" are compelling the employees to "deviate from the path of negotiations and talking", Omar said, adding that it is ultimately counter-productive for the interests of the employees.
