The matter was raised in the EDMC meeting, where standing committee chairman Lata Gupta rubbished the charge.
"There is no scam in purchase of the pesticide to control dengue vector. Contrary to SDMC and NDMC, we purchased lesser quantity of it. While SDMC and NDMC purchased around 4000 tonnes of it, we purchased only 40 tonnes which is one reason why cost was higher," she said.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra alleged a "scam" in the purchase of dengue vector control chemical 'vectracide' by BJP-ruled EDMC at a "higher rate" than South Delhi and North Delhi Municipal Corporations.
"Scam in EDMC - Vectracide is the medicine that was purchased at Rs 875 per kg by EDMC while same was purchased by NDMC at Rs 675 per kg," he said.
Gupta added that EDMC not only purchased the pesticide two months before the other two civic bodies, it also did not pay any consultancy charge for purchase which was paid by them.
"The purchase was made through open tender process duly concurred by finance department and approval of the standing committee," EDMC additional Commissioner Pawan Sharma added.
