'No standard colour scheme for painting road-dividers, kerb'
Press Trust of India New Delhi There is no standard colour scheme by law for painting road-dividers and kerbsides and there have been no objections by the city traffic police to New Delhi Municipal Council's new chosen combination of pink and green for the same, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said, the new colours were chosen in consonance with the dominant colours of "sandstone pink and verdant greenery" defining New Delhi area for the past century.
He was replying to a question on the new colour scheme recently adopted by the NDMC in its areas.
"There is no colour as virtual saffron. The dominant colours defining New Delhi area for past century are sandstone pink of the buildings and verdant greenery. The roadside kerbstones, and kerbstones provided on the divider have been painted in pink sandstone and green colour as far as possible to match the NDMC's colour scheme," Chaudhary said.
He said that, no objection has been raised by the traffic police of Delhi on this scheme and on their advice, relevant changes have been made to effectively guide the drivers especially during dark hours.
On the safety element of the scheme, Chaudhary said, "the colour scheme has an innovation of white fluorescent chemical paint which provides reflectivity and a safety feature. This is being applied throughout and the work would be completed by December 15, 2014."
The minister said the decision was taken to commemorate 100 years of the NDMC, and the endeavour was to commemorate the heritage and greenery of the area with the colour scheme.
