Uttar Pradesh government today said that there was no unprecented hike in power tariff and it would not be justified to roll it back.
In a written reply to a question raised by Congress member Naseeb Pathan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the tariff order was passed by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission in May 2013 after public hearing and inviting suggestions of consumers.
He said no unprecedented hike has been made by the commission and the average hike was 6.58 per cent which was mainly due to increase in supply cost which the commission has approved at the rate of Rs 6.12 per unit for the year 2013-14.
The CM said it should be noted that even after the hike, only 83 per cent of total expenditure was covered and that it would not be justified to roll it back.
He said the provision of penalty in case of more consumption than the sanctioned load was for stability of the system.
