No Vice Chancellors in 4 Central Universities: Govt

Vice Chancellor's post is vacant in four out of 41 Central Universities which come under the HRD ministry, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
The position of Vice Chancellor (VC) is vacant in Visva Bharati, Mizoram University, Pondicherry University and Nagaland University, HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
He said that 14 positions of Registrar and 19 position of Finance Officer are also vacant in Central Universities.
Javadekar said the process of appointing Vice Chancellor is a time consuming exercise which involves getting Executive Council/Court's nominees of the concerned University, constitution of search-cum-selection committee, advertisement of post, scrutiny of large number of applications, interaction with the shortlisted candidates, getting vigilance clearances of all the candidates in the panel from all institutions where they have served in the previous 10 years, approval of competent authority etc.
The minister added that "hence, no time frame can be indicated" regarding the filling up of these vacancies.
