Sixty six Nobel laureates, including former US president Jimmy Carter and the Dalai Lama, and 203 European Parliamentarians have demanded an end to the policy of using humans as bargaining chips and cannon-fodder in Gaza.
They have demanded the the release of people trapped in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza that has claimed over 2,000 lives.

"There are two ways to stop rockets from the besieged enclave. Either bombard the Strip into more ruins, and add tens of thousands of wounded, maimed and killed to the appalling toll of 1,500 civilians killed and over 9,000 wounded in July or stop ignoring the plight of Gazans, by addressing the roots of the confrontation while providing Israelis the essential security they need," it said.
The notable signatories of the campaign include the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Tutu from South-Africa, Irishman John Hume, ex US President Jimmy Carter, American author Toni Morrison, film director Jean-Luc Godard, Nigerian author Wole Soyinka, Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra, Australian author John Coetzee from South Africa, Warsaw ghetto survivor Martin Gray, Israeli writers David Grossman and Amos Oz.
