Nominations have been invited for the prestigious Chameli Devi Jain Award for women journalists, the Media Foundation said today.
An independent panel of jurists, who will evaluate the entries, will give preference to small town/rural, Indian language journalists and those who have not been awarded before in their careers.
Entries can be sent in English, Hindi or any other Indian language, the foundation said in a statement, laying out the parameters for selection as excellence, analytical skill, social concern, insights, style, innovation, courage and compassion.
"Journalists in the print, digital, broadcast and current affairs documentary film media are eligible, including photographers, cartoonists and newspaper designers," it said.
The award, first conferred in 1982, owes its success to late journalist B G Verghese, who personally ensured that the awardees met the objectives, the foundation said.
"Nominations should include a bio-data together with samples of work done during the period January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 in the form of links (preferably) clippings/tapes/CDs, accompanied by a brief explanation of why the candidate is especially deserving of recognition," it said.
Mediapersons sending their entries in regional languages need to send a translation of their work in English to-- The Media Foundation, Flat No-2B, 1/23 Shanti Niketan, New Delhi - 110021 or email to themediafoundationindia@gmail.Com on or before January 15, 2017.
