Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Kirti Kunal issued the warrant against Maurya yesterday. Maurya is the Leader of Opposition in Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
The case against him was filed after he made the alleged comments during a convention in Lucknow on September 21 last year, prosecution said.
The case was filed by a local lawyer, Anil Tewari.
The ACJM court had issued a non-bailable warrant against the BSP leader on December 18 last year after he had failed to appear before it.
The ACJM court, while issuing the non-bailable warrant, has fixed January 16 as the next date of hearing, prosecution lawyer said.
