Normal life was thrown out of gear today as heavy rains lashed Hyderabad for several hours last night.
Some localities in the city remained under a sheet of water even today.
Deputy Mayor of Hyderabad Baba Fasiuddin visited Allapur, Sardar Nagar and Gayatri Nagar and inspected the relief works, a release from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said.
Ramachandrauram received 83.3 mm of rainfall last night, followed by Madhapur, one of the places where several IT companies are located, at 67 mm, according to the Met office.
Those travelling on the roads had a tough time last night due to water logging. Many of them were not able to reach home till midnight.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said water logging was mainly due to 6 cms rainfall in a span of one hour, construction of buildings by closing natural flow of water and encroachments on water bodies, among others.
He said road repair works would be taken up on a war footing at a cost of Rs 91 crore soon after the ongoing spell of rains come to an end, a GHMC release said.
The Met office said thunderstorm associated with heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana tomorrow.
