Normal work in govt schools, hospitals and offices affected

Normal work in state government schools, offices and hospitals was affected today with more than 20 lakh employees, associated with different workers unions, observed a day-long strike in Uttar Pradesh.
The call for strike was given by the 'Karamchari-Shikshak Samyukt Morch' for resolving pay anomalies, implementation of 7th pay commission recommendations, opening recruitment on grade four staff, pension and gratuity benefits for staff regularised till 2001 and others, a statement said.
The employees of different government departments took part in protest meetings across the state and remained on strike, a statement issued by the morcha said.
The government hospitals were worst hit as it witnessed a heavy rush of patients suffering from dengue, malaria and viral diseases.
As the nurses and pharmacists joined the strike, medical services in government-run hospitals in the state remained paralysed rendering hardships not only to patients but also to their attendants who were forced to depend on private clinics for x-ray, pathology and other medical assistance.
