Normalcy has returned in Pokhuria village in East Singhbhum district today after yesterday's violence over alleged molestation and eve teasing of a woman, a senior police officer said.
The situation today is absolutely peaceful and normal in Pakhuria village, said Superintendent of Police (Rural), Shailendra Prasad Burnwal.
We have deployed a magistrate as well as adequate force in the village to maintain law and order, he said.
Yesterday some people turned violent following the arrest of some villagers for torching the hut of a man who allegedly molested and teased a 25-year-old woman.
Asked about reports of police firing in the air to disperse the unruly mob, Burnwal denied it, stating that no such thing taken place last night as the situation was successfully handled.
He said the Officer-in-charge of the Bodam police station Vikrant Tiwary was shifted to the police line while a recommendation has been made to remove the village chowkidar, who did not inform the police despite the brewing tension following the eve-teasing incident on Tuesday.
