North India receives widespread rains

Widespread rains in north India, including the national capital, today brought the mercury down markedly giving respite to people from the sultry weather prevailing for the last few days.
In Delhi, which had been reeling under dry weather for the most part of the month, people enjoyed showers that stretched throughout the day.
According to the MeT department, the Safdarjung observatory, whose reading is considered official for the city, recorded 35.8 mm of rainfall during the day, while Palam registered 46.2 mm, Ayanagar 38.8 mm and Ridge 19.6 mm.
The maximum temperature settled at 34 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season, while the minimum dipped a notch below normal to 25 degrees Celsius.

The rains, however, pushed humidity to extremely unbearable levels between 83 and 95 per cent.
Temperatures dropped significantly at many places in Haryana which received light showers even as its neighbouring state Punjab experienced dry weather.

The joint capital of the two states, Chandigarh, which received light rains, recorded a high of 33.2 degrees Celsius, MeT report said.
In Haryana, Hisar was lashed by heavy rains and the maximum temperature there settled at 30.5 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal.
Ambala and Bhiwani too received rains and both the towns recorded below-normal maximums temperatures at 31.5 and 30.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.

In Punjab, Patiala recorded a high of 33.2 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana's maximum settled at 34.1 degrees Celsius and Amritsar registered 35.5 degrees Celsius.
Widespread showers occurred at many places in Rajasthan giving relief to people from the sultry weather, as Atru and Bundi recorded 9 cm rainfall each, a Met report said.
Light to moderate rains occurred at many places in the state, including in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer districts.
Mandal recorded 8 cm rainfall followed by Bhopalsagar and Bassi 6 cm each, Ramgarhpachwara, Kathumar, Rajgarh, Bansu, Patan, Rajsamand, Todabheem, Makrana 5 cm each, Sikari, Puskar, Jamwaramgarh, Kishangarh, Bari, Bayana 4 cm each, while many other places received one to three cm rainfall.

Jaipur experienced intermittent showers and recorded 8 mm rains while Ajmer got 38.2 mm.
