North reels under cold wave; Srinagar at 0.6, Leh -15 deg C

North India reeled under a severe cold wave and foggy conditions with no sign of abating as a fresh spell of mild snowfall lashed hills of Himachal Pradesh while mercury in several parts of the state and Kashmir dipped as low as minus 15 degree Celsius.
The national capital today woke up to a chilly morning with icy winds and foggy conditions prevailing through out the day.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 17.1 deg C, four notches below the normal level, while the minimum was recorded at 6.5 deg C, one notch below the normal level, Meteorological department said.
Cold wave further tightened its grip over Kashmir today as mercury dipped by several notches in most parts of the Valley with Kargil, in Ladakh region, recording the coldest night of the winter so far.
Kargil shivered at minus 15.7 deg C, a drop of almost seven degrees from the previous night's low of minus 8.9 deg C.
The town was also the coldest place in the state.

The night temperature in Srinagar dropped over two notches to settle at a low of minus 0.6 deg C.
Plains of Uttar Pradesh witnessed partly cloudy skies and cold tightened its grip over the state.
According to the Meteorological department, fog occurred at isolated places over eastern UP disrupting normal life.
Najibabad in Bijnore district remained the coldest place in the state as temperature stood at 2.4 deg C.
Kanpur recorded a minimum of 3.5 deg C while state capital Lucknow recorded 5 deg C.
There was also no let up in cold in Himachal Pradesh.
Strong velocity icy winds lashed the region causing a further drop in mercury.
