North reels under heat wave

The capital Delhi recorded a high of 43.2 degrees Celsius, four degree above normal and a minimum of 32.4 deg C.

Sizzling temperatures coupled with hot winds made life miserable for people of Uttar Pradesh with Ballia recording a high of 44.5 deg C.

In Punjab and Haryana mercury stayed above normal.

Amritsar sweltered at 46.6 degrees Celsius, with maximum five notches above normal while Ludhiana experienced a hot day at 44.2 deg C, three notches above normal, the MeT officials said here.

Heat also prevailed in Patiala, with the maximum settling at 43.6 deg C, up by three degrees.

Chandigarh recorded 42.3 deg C, up by three notches.

In Haryana, Hisar sizzled at 44 deg C while Rohtak was hot at 43.6 deg C. Ambala recorded the maximum at the 43.4 deg C, up by three degrees, while Narnaul recorded 43.5 deg Celsius.

Heat wave also swept parts of Rajasthan where Sriganganagar remained the hottest place with a maximum of 44.8 deg C.

Blistering heat affected normal life in other parts of the state also where Churu sizzled at 44.7 degree.

Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jaipur and Kota recorded maximum of 43, 41.3, 40.6 and 39.4 deg C while other places recorded day temperature between 36.6 deg C to 38.9 deg C, according to Met department here.

People in lower hills of Himachal Pradesh also suffered the brunt of heat.

Mercury rose further by one to two deg C to stay 44 deg C in Una, five degrees above normal while the state capital Shimla recorded a high of 30.5 deg C, 6.5 deg C above normal.
