North sweats in humidity

Sporadic showers in parts of North India failed to provide relief from sweltering heat as mercury in the region hovered between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius.
Delhiites continued to sweat under hot and humid condition as the upper humidity level shot up to 85 per cent.
The day temperature settled at 37.7 degrees, four notches above the normal level, and the minimum temperature was a degree higher than normal at 28.1 degrees, as per the Meteorological department.
Humidity levels oscillated between 53 and 85 per cent.
While in Uttar Pradesh, a man and his minor daughter were killed after being struck by lightning in Lalitpur district as light to moderate showers occurred at isolated places across the state.
Punjab and Haryana also bore the brunt of sweltering heat as maximum temperatures hovered between 34 and 36 degrees in the region.

Light to moderate rain was witnessed at a few places in the two states. Amritsar got 55.4 mm rain while Ambala received 40 mm.
Hisar was the hottest place in the two states with a high of 36 degrees Celsius.
In Rajasthan, light to moderate rainfall took place at Udaipur, Kota and Jodhpur divisions.
Ajmer, Kota, Jaipur and Jodhpur received 22.7, 16.8, 9.4 and 7.3 mm rainfall respectively till today evening, a MeT official said.
