Designer Rick Roy, who has worked with likes of Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Sonam Kapoor, says while styling for a film he does not give importance to the stardom of an actor and only considers the character.
"Stardom is distracting sometimes and for a film, you need to see the person playing the role minus the star value attached to them. It is very important to forget how big a star he or she is," Rick says in an interview with PTI.
Rick has worked with Sonam in "Dolly Ki Doli" and did styling for Akshay-Sonakshi Sinha starrer "Joker". He teamed up with Akshay again for "Gabbar" and also worked with Emraan Hashmi in "Ghanchakkar".
While Rick keeps in mind the comfort of an actor, his priority remains to design as per the requirements of the role.
"It is very important for actors to feel comfortable in the clothes they are wearing and I am not saying just physical comfort, clothes should make an actor feel like the character they are playing. I focus on what the character will wear rather than what the person (actor) playing it will want to wear."
Rick's next film as a costume designer is "Tumhari Sulu" in which he has dressed Vidya as a middle class housewife.
"It is very tough to do real films like 'Tumhari Sulu', it might look easy but to get that relatability part correct is very challenging. Middle class is simple but in a movie the costumes should always be exclusive, it doesn't have to be expensive but has to be unique to that film only".
