"I have written it because I did not want to glorify crime but it's a case study and a character like Charles of course is inspired from a lot of true incidents but a character like this is very enigmatic," the "Darna Mana Hai" helmer said.
"I have seen these kind of glorified criminals... They need to be understood and portrayed in the correct fashion," he said.
Actor Adil Hussain will be seen playing the role of a cop -- Amod Kanth in "Main Aur Charles", while Randeep Hooda portrays Sobhraj.
"Then he takes it almost personally that this man cannot be in the society and run around freely. So that kind of honesty and integrity is what this character has and so that's why I wanted to play this role," he added.
Also starring Richa Chadha and Tisca Chopra, the film is slated to hit the screens on October 30.
