The National Green Tribunal today disposed of a plea for protection of wetlands in the national capital saying it was not appropriate for it to jump into every issue.
"It is improper for us to interfere in the matter. Delhi High Court has passed a detailed order in relation to revival of water bodies. They have already appointed a committee. What can we do? It is not proper for the Tribunal to jump into everything.
"Don't think that if you have come to the Tribunal we are bound to act. We cannot keep going on and on in everything," a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said while disposing off a plea seeking protection of wetlands in the national capital.
The green panel was hearing a plea filed environmentalist Mahendra Pandey who had approached the Tribunal for the protection and management of the rich green heritage of the wetland.
"Evolve a conservative and a sound management plan for the protection of wetlands/waterbody situated in the national capital of the world's largest democracy," the plea, filed through advocate Gaurav Bansal, had said.
"We are informed that the Delhi High Court has passed a detailed order in relation to revival of water bodies. The High Court has been pleased to constitute a committee to comply with its directions.
"In view of the above, it would not be appropriate for the Tribunal to intervene at this stage. If there is a specific case with relation to wetlands, we grant liberty to the applicant to bring it to the notice of the Committee which shall take appropriate steps," the bench said.
